360° Analytical Services
|
|
360 has a great deal of experience in the field of Operational
Research (OR). These techniques and methods can be applied
to a wide variety of businesses and business situations. Typically
used on more complex problems or when general analytical
methods run out of steam or in-house users have passed their
level of expertise. The OR approach
frequently provides a new angle because of the diverse
techniques and methods known to its practitioners.
Examples of projects include:
- Forecasting
- Distribution depot location
- Vehicle routing
- Statistical solutions
- Optimisation problems
- Simulation

CAA (Civil Aviation Authority) |
The
CAA use a great deal of OR to analyse and forecast aircraft
traffic. 360 were called in to produce forecast capacities of
air traffic over the UK two years in advance under the rules
and yet to be introduced working practices at a New En-route
Control centre. Despite the lack of hard data, 360 managed to
produce forecasts for all sectors and results were well accepted
by senior management. The project also highlighted new considerations
for the operation of their in-house fast-time simulation model.
The project enabled them to plan ahead and to see if various
configurations of airspace/working practices and rules would
meet forecast traffic. |
Coors Brewers (distribution) |
360
staff were involved in all the depot locational projects
for Coors Brewers Ltd. Various studies were undertaken,
including a National Distribution project to determine
the optimal number of depots that was required across
the UK and where those depots should be. Estimated savings
on this project were calculated to be £10m pa. The
model used was deemed by Touche Ross to be unsurpassed
in the UK in terms of ********* |
|
Sears plc |
360
were called in by Sears to see if their UK shoe stores could
be evaluated in terms of performance. The problem being that
some stores performed well in some areas and some stores in
other areas. There were also stores that had a good rounded
performance. Trying to compare using common techniques falls
down. 360 suggested a more unusual technique called Data
Envelopment Analysis (DEA) which is ready-made for such
problems. A prototype model was developed and analysed and although
results were promising, it was found that more data needed to
be collected for any meaningful results. |
